An endodontist is a dentist who specializes in diagnosing and treating problems involving the dental pulp and tissues surrounding the roots of teeth. After completing dental school, endodontists receive additional advanced training focused on root canal treatment, endodontic retreatment, endodontic surgery, dental trauma, and the diagnosis of complex dental pain.Endodontists are experts in saving natural teeth. Using specialized training, advanced technology, microscopes, and CBCT imaging, they are able to diagnose and treat conditions affecting the inside of the tooth with a high degree of precision. Their primary goal is to relieve pain, eliminate infection, and help patients preserve their natural teeth whenever possible.

Following root canal treatment, it is normal to experience mild tenderness or soreness for a few days as the surrounding tissues heal. Most patients are able to return to their normal daily activities the same day or the following day.After treatment, a report will be sent to your referring dentist outlining the care provided and any recommended next steps. In most cases, patients will need to return to their general dentist for placement of the final restoration, such as a permanent filling or crown, to protect the tooth and ensure long-term success.Our office remains available to answer questions and provide follow-up care if needed. Our goal is to help patients heal comfortably and preserve their natural teeth for many years to come.

While root canal treatment has a high success rate, there are occasions when a tooth may not heal as expected or may develop new problems months or even years after treatment. Root canal retreatment may be recommended when persistent infection, recurrent symptoms, or new findings are identified around a previously treated tooth.Common reasons for retreatment include complex anatomy that was not fully treated during the original procedure, missed canals, recurrent decay that allows bacteria to re-enter the tooth, breakdown of a restoration, or the development of a new infection.A thorough evaluation, often including CBCT imaging when indicated, is performed to determine the cause of the problem and whether retreatment, endodontic surgery, or another option is the most appropriate course of action. Our goal is always to preserve the natural tooth whenever possible while providing patients with the best long-term outcome.

Severe tooth pain should never be ignored. Patients experiencing significant pain, swelling, sensitivity to temperature, pain when biting, or signs of infection should contact their dentist as soon as possible for an evaluation. Early diagnosis and treatment can often prevent the problem from worsening and may improve treatment outcomes.If referred to our office, we make every effort to see patients with urgent dental pain promptly. In many cases, same-day treatment may be available when indicated.If a patient experiences severe swelling, difficulty swallowing, difficulty breathing, or other signs of a spreading infection, they should seek immediate medical attention.Our goal is to identify the source of the problem, relieve pain, and provide the most appropriate treatment to help patients return to comfort as quickly as possible.
